Modernization means a plenitude of new plenitudes ; Modernity means plenticide

Modernization is an objective set of conditions ( a globalizing plenitude of new plenitudes) that became noticeable with particular force in the 1870s and has never really left us.

Modernity - by contrast - arose in frightened reaction against this sudden overwhelming plethora of plethoras and was/is a subjective condition - a mental state.

Modernity sought to control and contain all of modernization's seeping across mental traditional borders by separating all reality into hard, firm, clearcut dualities of good or bad, inside or outside, normal or deviant , true or false.

These , at least, are my modernity and modernization - as always, you are free to create your own definitions and time periods....
